Studying in a university that is very focused on business and entrepreneurship, I’ve had the opportunity to be surrounded by the entrepreneur environment for most of my studies, though I never actually experienced it up close. That is, until I started working in Orion Startups, a place where I was in contact with the entrepreneurial spirit every day.
It all started when I was looking for a new place to start an internship for the semester. I was looking for something different that could give me new experiences, something that would let me apply my knowledge into practice. I had several internship options to choose from, but none of them really got my attention.
Then I heard about some companies that were in the acceleration program of Orion Startups, a company I hadn’t heard of before, so I started looking for more information and thought that it would be an interesting choice for me.
I decided to apply for the internship and eventually, I got it. When I started working here, I got to know more about what they do, how they do it and what they can help these companies achieve. I was very surprised and impressed about the huge impact and reach that the program has nationally and internationally, with the companies that are a part of it.
In my internship, my activities consisted in helping the team in different tasks. I could be helping with the creation of the Orion Startups Weekly Newsletter, searching for new and interesting articles that could be of interest to the contact network of Orion. I was also looking for investors in different areas in the U.S. in order to create a list of the potential sources from which the companies could seek funding.
There were also smaller activities that varied a lot, everyday there was something different to do. I think that is one of the aspects about the internship that I liked the most; there was always a new task to be accomplished, and through them, I could learn more about different topics that were involved in the process of a startup.
Besides of what the company does, it was very rewarding to be in a work environment in which everyone is friendly and willing to help you in anything you might need. The atmosphere was calm and fun, either because of the funny ping-pong matches and silly jokes, or just because of the great mix of people I had the opportunity to get to know and work with.
Sadly, my internship came to an end, but I take with me the great times I spent working there and a great deal of knowledge and experience that will definitely come handy in the future.
PS. Thank you and I miss you
