In the last 11, 12 and 13 of March, Orion Startups carried out 3 different events held at SXSW, the great annual festival of Music, Film, Technology and Entrepreneurship in Austin, Texas.
As a part of an initiative of the Mexican American Cultural Center and ProMéxico, there was the task of creating a bridge of entrepreneurship between schools, investors and Mexican and American Startups. This is where Tec de Monterrey joins, and in collaboration with Orion Startups, Startup Mexico, Dalus Capital, ProMéxico, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NXTP Labs, Sports Entertainment Republic, and the Association of Mexican Businessmen, the space denominated Casa México was created.
Seed Pitch Fire, Pitch for Investment and Speed Dating were events to which more than 20 startups had access to, in the search of capital from 30K USD up to 300K USD, plus the possibility of networking and meet different organisms involved in the entrepreneurship ecosystem in these two countries.
Seed Pitch Fire
A space for startups that were in their first rounds of investment. With a 3-minute pitch and lots of energy, Diagtech, reply’em and 14 other startups participated to receive investment ranging from 30K to 100K USD, apart from the best recommendations from the panel of juries.
Pitch for Investment
For all those companies accepting bigger challenges and taking advantage of big opportunities, this space let Koala Roomie, Snaptal (two of our first batch graduates) and 8 other companies pitch for 3 minutes in the search of investment for more than 300K USD, apart from receiving feedback from accelerators, investors and universities.
And last but not least, Orion Startups organized an event in which investors, accelerators and universities sat down to meet the most promising new companies of the event, face to face in a fun dynamic of speed dating. What else can you ask for?
It was a busy, labor-intensive but most of all, exciting experience. Meeting so many talented people reunited, going out to a bar and chat about new projects, go to concerts and film screenings, all on itself makes this event one of the most gratifying experiences. But the most significant aspect were the results: the alliances that were forged between investors and startups, the exposure that Mexican companies in the U.S. received and a possible and very promising alliance between Orion Startups and Axtel México.
SXSW was a great experience that we hope to repeat next year
